Welcome to Chicken Run Creations!

Welcome to Chicken Run Creations!

Hello, and welcome! I'm so glad you stopped by.

My name is Dawn, and I'm the artist and instructor behind Chicken Run Creations. I've been married to my husband for almost 40 years, am the mom of five grown children, and grandma to a growing crew of wonderful grandchildren. We live on a small homestead in upstate New York, where you'll usually find me either in my craft room, out in the garden, or tending to our chickens.

How I Found Needle Felting

Like many crafters, I've tried just about everything over the years - cross stitch, quilting, decorative painting, sewing, crochet, card making... if it involved making something by hand, I probably gave it a try!

Then, in 2020, I discovered needle felting.

Actually, that's not entirely true.

I had first seen someone demonstrating needle felting at a craft show several years earlier and was fascinated by the process, but at the time it was difficult to find supplies and information. So I tucked the idea away until one day I came across a beginner's kit online. I ordered it, watched every tutorial I could find, picked up my first felting needle... and I was hooked.

From Hobby to Teaching

What started as a hobby quickly grew into something much bigger.

As I shared my creations online, people began asking if I would make animals for them. Not long after, I was invited to teach my very first needle felting class at our local library. I was nervous, wondering if I really knew enough to teach, but I discovered something that surprised me...

I loved teaching almost as much as I loved creating.

That one class eventually led to YouTube tutorials, weekly Facebook Lives, online workshops, and today, The Needle Felting Classroom, where I help others learn this wonderful craft through step-by-step classes and tutorials.

Why I Do What I Do

One of my favorite things about needle felting is watching a project slowly develop its own personality. Every sculpture is a little different, and I believe the same is true for every person learning the craft.

That's why my goal isn't just to teach you how to make one project. I want to help you build the skills and confidence to create many more.

Whether you're here to browse my handmade creations, download a tutorial, join a class, or simply find inspiration for your next project, I'm grateful you're here.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you'll visit often as I continue sharing new projects, tutorials, and a little behind-the-scenes look at life here at Chicken Run Creations.

Happy felting!

Dawn
